Sauna Stove Usage Tutorial

2025-11-23

Sauna, as a traditional health-preserving method, can help people relax both physically and mentally and promote blood circulation. The sauna stove, as the core equipment of the sauna room, its correct use is directly related to the safety and comfort of the sauna experience. This tutorial will detail the usage method of the sauna stove to help you easily master the operation skills and enjoy the comfort brought by the sauna safely.

1. Understand the Basic Types and Core Components of Sauna Stoves

1.1 Common Types

Currently, sauna stoves on the market are mainly divided into two types: electrically heated sauna stoves and wood-burning sauna stoves. Electrically heated sauna stoves are easy to operate and have precise temperature control, suitable for home and commercial sauna rooms; wood-burning sauna stoves have a more traditional sauna atmosphere and produce a unique wood fragrance during the heating process, but they are relatively complicated to operate, requiring attention to wood addition and fire control.

1.2 Core Components

  • Heating Element: The core component of the electrically heated sauna stove, usually made of stainless steel or nickel-chromium alloy, responsible for converting electrical energy into heat energy; wood-burning sauna stoves generate heat by burning wood.
  • Temperature Controller: Used to adjust the temperature of the sauna stove. Electrically heated sauna stoves are generally equipped with digital or mechanical temperature controllers, which can accurately set the temperature range (usually 60℃-100℃).
  • Stove Body: It plays the role of containing the heating element and heat insulation, mostly made of materials with high temperature resistance and good heat insulation performance, such as stainless steel, ceramics, etc.
  • Sauna Stones: Laid above the heating element, they absorb heat and then release it slowly, making the temperature in the sauna room more uniform, and at the same time, they can generate steam when water is poured on them.

2. Preparation Before Use

2.1 Equipment Inspection

Before using the sauna stove, a comprehensive equipment inspection must be carried out. For electrically heated sauna stoves, check whether the power cord is intact, whether the plug and socket are in good contact, and whether there is any leakage; check whether the heating element is normal and whether there is damage or deformation; check whether the temperature controller can display and adjust the temperature normally. For wood-burning sauna stoves, check whether the stove door is closed tightly, whether the flue is unobstructed, and whether the grate is intact.

2.2 Sauna Room Preparation

Ensure good ventilation in the sauna room, and you can open the vent for ventilation to avoid hypoxia during use. Clean the sauna room, remove debris, and keep the environment clean and tidy. At the same time, check whether the seats and floor in the sauna room are dry to avoid slipping due to dampness.

2.3 Preparation of Necessary Items

Prepare the necessary items for the sauna, such as clean towels (used to spread on the seats and wipe the body), water ladles (used to pour water on the sauna stones to generate steam), drinking water (to replenish body water in time), non-slip slippers, etc.

3. Detailed Operation Steps of the Sauna Stove

3.1 Operation Steps of Electrically Heated Sauna Stove

  1. Startup Preheating: Insert the power plug of the sauna stove into the socket and turn on the power switch. Set the desired temperature through the temperature controller according to personal needs. It is generally recommended to set the initial temperature at 60℃-70℃. The preheating time is usually 30-60 minutes, depending on the size of the sauna room and the power of the sauna stove.
  2. Temperature Adjustment: During the preheating process, you can observe the temperature displayed on the temperature controller at any time and adjust it according to the actual situation. When the temperature reaches the set value, the sauna stove will automatically stop heating, and will start heating again when the temperature drops to keep the temperature stable.
  3. Steam Generation: When the temperature in the sauna room reaches a suitable temperature, take an appropriate amount of cold water with a clean water ladle and pour it slowly and evenly on the sauna stones to generate steam. Be careful not to pour too much water at one time to avoid excessive steam causing a sudden rise in temperature or water splashing and scalding.
  4. Usage Process: After entering the sauna room, you can choose a suitable seat position according to your own feeling, and avoid sitting directly near the heating element. It is recommended to stay in the sauna room for 15-20 minutes each time, not too long.
  5. Shutdown: After use, first turn off the temperature controller, then turn off the power switch, and unplug the power plug. Wait for the sauna stove and sauna room to cool down naturally before cleaning.

3.2 Operation Steps of Wood-Burning Sauna Stove

  1. Adding Wood: Open the stove door, add an appropriate amount of wood on the grate. Do not add too much wood to avoid insufficient combustion or excessive smoke. Some kindling, such as newspapers and wood chips, can be placed under the wood.
  2. Ignition and Heating: Ignite the kindling, close the stove door, and open the flue damper to allow the smoke to be discharged smoothly. After the wood is fully burned, the flue damper can be adjusted appropriately to control the combustion speed and temperature.
  3. Temperature Control: Control the temperature in the sauna room by the amount of wood added and adjusting the flue damper, which is generally kept at 70℃-80℃. During the heating process, pay attention to observing the situation inside the stove to avoid the wood burning out or the fire being too large.
  4. Steam Generation and Usage: When the temperature is suitable, pour water on the sauna stones to generate steam, and the usage method is the same as that of the electrically heated sauna stove.
  5. Fire Extinguishing and Cleaning: After use, close the flue damper and let the wood go out naturally. After the stove body cools down, clean the ash and remaining wood in the stove.

4. Usage Notes

Safety Warning: The temperature of the sauna stove is relatively high during use. Be sure to pay attention to safety and avoid direct contact between the body and the heating element and high-temperature stove body to prevent scalding. Children, the elderly, pregnant women, and people with hypertension, heart disease, skin diseases and other diseases should consult a doctor's opinion before use and should not use it without permission.
  • Maintain proper ventilation in the sauna room during use to avoid dizziness, fatigue and other discomfort symptoms caused by hypoxia.
  • Do not smoke, drink alcohol or eat stimulating food in the sauna room to avoid increasing the body burden.
  • When pouring water on the sauna stones, use a special water ladle and the amount of water should be moderate to avoid water splashing on the ground and causing slipping.
  • The time for each sauna use should not be too long. It is generally recommended to take 15-20 minutes as a cycle, and there should be an interval between two uses to allow the body to rest.
  • After use, timely turn off the sauna stove power or clean the ash in the stove to ensure equipment safety.

5. Maintenance of Sauna Stove

5.1 Daily Cleaning

Clean the sauna stove in time after each use and cooling. For electrically heated sauna stoves, you can use a clean cloth to wipe the dust and dirt on the surface of the stove body. Be careful not to use a wet cloth or corrosive detergent to avoid damaging the equipment. For wood-burning sauna stoves, clean the ash and remaining wood in the stove to keep the stove clean.

5.2 Regular Inspection and Maintenance

Regularly inspect various components of the sauna stove. For electrically heated sauna stoves, check whether the power cord, heating element, temperature controller, etc. are normal and whether there is looseness or damage; for wood-burning sauna stoves, check whether the stove door, flue damper, grate, etc. are intact and whether there is deformation or damage. If problems are found, they should be repaired or replaced in time to ensure the normal operation of the equipment.
Sauna stones should also be inspected and replaced regularly. When the sauna stones are cracked, broken or have serious surface scaling, they should be replaced with new ones in time to ensure the sauna effect and equipment safety.
Through the above steps, you can use the sauna stove safely and correctly, and enjoy the relaxation and comfort brought by the sauna to the fullest. Hope this tutorial is helpful to you!
